SPL's Christmas DVD Collection

Please visit the library to check out one of the movies listed below or any of our many other Christmas film offerings.

To help Spencer Library visitors save time when looking through our movie collection for a Christmas-related movie, we have collected all of our Christmas movies on a single set of bookshelves. The familiar standards are there, including Miracle on 34th Street, It's A Wonderful Life (Jimmy Stewart and Donna Read), Holiday Inn (Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire), White Christmas (Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, and Rosemary Clooney), A Christmas Story (the Jean Shepherd memoir inspired by his childhood and narrated by him), The Polar Express, The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant and Loretta Young), The Holiday (Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, and Jude Law), Elf (Will Farrell), How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey), Home Alone (McCaulay Culkin), National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, etc. AND we have several of the Hallmark Channel Christmas movies.

A few of our Christmas movies may surprise. A John Wayne western, 3 Godfathers, has a religious and Christmas theme. A 1940 movie starring James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan, The Shop Around the Corner, is a romantic comedy that climaxes on Christmas Eve (and was the inspiration for the movie You've Got Mail). Plus there is the 2003 movie, Love Actually, which many fans insist is a Christmas movie. Finally, for the Die Hard fans, we agree, it is a Christmas movie , and we have it.
P.S. Personally, I highly recommend Beatrix Potter's A Tailor of Gloucester for the kids.
